Zahra Ali Syed

Environmentalist/Journalist

Zahra Ali Syed is a Karachi-based sustainability consultant, educator, and journalist who has been working with the public and private sectors for over 14 years. She has educated over 10,000 children about eco-literacy since 2009 through her startup the Learning Garden. In 2018, Zahra established The Green Pilgrim Movement to address the problem of plastic waste left behind by pilgrims during Arbaeen in Iraq. Today, The Green Pilgrim collaborates with The Holy Shrines, local government, business councils, and community members to make sustainable Arbaeen a reality. Currently, Zahra is a student for an MA in Media, Ethics, and Social Change at the University of Sussex, UK. She is certified by IMF, Harvard, the University of Maryland, and The Geoff Lawton Institute on climate change, sustainable development, permaculture design, and public leadership. She contributes her writings on Islamic Environmentalism for Ataba Imam Ali (s).
